I recently went to sunny Iceland, almost 24 hours sunlight is quite weird. Rather than staying in Reykjavik for the whole week we rented a car and road tripped around the ring road, staying in campsites. If you ever go to Iceland I recommend doing this, you get to see so much more without having to worry about getting back to your hotel each night (camping during the winter though may be a bit cold). And how often can you say you’ve camped at the foot of a Glacier?
Below is a photo I took of Strokkur Geyser, which is next to the original Geysir.

Hello,i am from greece and i am intrested to do a trip to iceland. i am think to do camping. so i wanted to ask you if its a good idea.to stay in one campsite or too travel around. there is an opportunity to do free camping??
jim,I wouldn’t stay in one campsite the entire time. Travel around the island and camp in a campsite where you end up that night, you’ll save more time and get to see alot more of the island. I’m not sure about free camping. The price varies depending on where you camp, some we stayed at were 200 kronas for a tent, some were 500-900 per person (the more popular campsites). You could also look at youth hostels, if you plan on travelling during the winter months, but you will need to prebook these as you would a hotel.
thanks a lot,you know the prices in euros???and also that trip in iceland is a good idea or not !!!you paid much???
JimUsing an online currency converter (finance.yahoo.com/…/convert) 500 icelandic krona is about 4.1 euros.Travelling the ring road is certainly a good trip to do, make sure you go in the summer months tho as Iceland can get very cold in the winter.
